Construction site safety platform.

Site safety and workforce data out of spreadsheets. A multi-role platform with QR badges, clock-ins, document expiry and compliance, live for five years.

Context

Safety consultants and construction firms working on building sites, where every recorded attendance carries documentary weight towards clients and inspecting authorities. Whoever coordinates safety has to be able to show, after the fact, who was on site, on which day, and with which documents still valid.

Problem

Sites, subcontracted firms, workers, qualifications, medical checks, expiring documents and clock-ins lived in spreadsheets and ring binders. The real compliance question is knowing at any moment who may legitimately enter a site, and with dozens of firms and hundreds of workers that answer arrived late and reassembled by hand. Rules also change often, and each new obligation threatened to send the work back to the start.

What I built

A multi-role management platform holding clients, firms, consultants and workers together. Site and company records, QR code badges, clock-ins, qualifications and certifications with their expiry dates, health surveillance, incidents, issue threads with messages, credit-based licence tracking, construction fund and congruity data, exports and PDF document processing. The same APIs also feed the mobile app used on site. I am the technical lead on the project and work with a team that has grown to five people over the years.

Outcome

Five years in service and more than 280 database migrations: the system has followed every change in compliance rules without being rebuilt from scratch.
